H.E Yoweri K. Museveni

President of the Republic of Uganda

I thank the summit for raising $358.3 million to support the cause of refugees.

The summit was held in Uganda because of the good example we have set.

Collecting that money in a single day was excellent.

Journalists have raised questions about Ugandan's increasing population and whether it won't cause friction with refugees over land.

I am not worried about this. Wealth is not land only. Industry, services are all a source of wealth.

Remember refugees are also consumers and create us wealth. Of what use is land without wealth?

Also, the policy of giving refugees land is not new as some journalists thought. It has been around since the 1960s. Rwandan refugees in Nakivale were given land.

The only new policy is that where we allow refugees to leave their settlements and go to nearby urban areas to work, if they have capital and skills.

Once again I thank the world for standing with refugees. I thank all stakeholders who made the Uganda Solidarity Summit on Refugees a success.

I thank my co-host, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, for a job well done.
